KDE 4 preview on Ubuntu
If you’re eagerly awaiting the release of KDE 4.0 on January 11 and you’re running Ubuntu then get a taste of the next big thing by installing KDE 4.0 release candidate 2 in three easy steps.
1 – Add the KDE 4 repository to your /etc/apt/sources.list file
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Add deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ubuntu gutsy main to the bottom of that file. Save
2 – Update your repository list
sudo apt-get update
3 – Install the KDE RC2 files
sudo apt-get install kdebase-bin kdebase-workspace kdebase-kde4 kdebase-runtime
Now all you need to do is log out and choose the KDE4 session next time you log in. Enjoy.

I did this. It works; however, it may be useful to note that many kde4 packages are not loaded through this process. I was not able to run the kde4 setup program: I hope that one of the 144 packages I am now installing will enable me to do so. It’s a very nice looking desktop.
