HP open sources Tru64 file system

Hewlett-Packard has released the source code to its Tru64 Unix Advanced File System (AdvFS) to the open source community. The company said yesterday that it was releasing the code under the GPL version 2 and would provide design documentation, test suites and engineering resources for the OS.

Kernel hackers call for open source drivers

Linux kernel developers today began to petition hardware vendors to provide open source modules and drivers. In a statement signed by more than 140 Linux kernel developers, the group said that closed-source Linux kernel modules or drivers were “detrimental to Linux users, businesses, and the greater Linux ecosystem”.
