Ubuntu releases final Intrepid alpha

With just over a month to go to the final release of the latest Ubuntu version, Intrepid Ibex, Ubuntu today released the sixth version for testing. Ubuntu 8.10, or Intrepid Ibex, will be released at the end of October.

Intrepid Ibex will have a strong focus on mobile computing as the netbook battle heats up.

Alpha 6 is the sixth and final alpha release before a beta in early October.

The final release of 8.10 is scheduled for October 30.

Intrepid Ibex promises to have a number of new features as well as enhancements. Among these is notably faster boot times, better Flash integration and a new desktop theme that was planned for 8.04 but never made the cut. For more on what to expect from Intrepid Ibex see Intrepid Ubuntu plans out.

The version after Intrepid Ibex is to be called Jaunty Jackalope and is due for release in April 2009.
