hp-mi-home-screenHewlet Packard has released a custom interface for Ubuntu running on netbooks. DownloadSquad (DS) reports that the interface was designed for HP’s Mini 1000 Mi Edition netbook and is built on an Ubuntu 8.04 base. The interface includes launchers for a selection of pre-loaded common applications including OpenOffice.org, Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird and Pidgin but, based on standard Ubuntu, other applications can easily be added to it.

DS points out that what makes the Mi Edition software stand out is that the interface looks nothing like Ubuntu or even Ubuntu Remix, the gui built by Ubuntu for netbooks.

Ubuntu Forums has details on installing the HP interface over an existing Ubuntu install.
