Mozilla’s Fennec stumbles at first gate

fennec1Mozilla’s mobile browser, Fennec, has tripped dismally on its first trip out of the gate. The pre-alpha release of the mini browser for Windows Mobile, released last week, has such a huge bug that it is effectively useless to most users. It seems that most users of the browser were greeted by a checkerboard pattern, and nothing else.

In a blog posting, Fennec team member Mark Finkle, says the “browser is basically useless for many people”.

Finkle says that the team has been digging into the problem and have, so far, been able to reproduce it.

“This appears to be memory related. Windows Mobile has some exciting restrictions around memory use. There are ways to get around the restrictions and that’s what we are working on,” wrote Finkle.
